Sundance ' Content is delighted to announce the acquisition of all international rights to CONCUSSION. The controversial but beautiful film premiered last weekend at the Sundance Film Festival in the U.S. Dramatic section and has also been selected in Berlin's Panorama, where it will screen next month. Directed and written by Stacie Passon, the cast includes breakout performances by Robin Weigert (The Sessions, Sons of Anarchy), Maggie Siff (Michael Clayton, Sons of Anarchy), Johnathan Tchaikovsky (Reservation Road), Julie Fain Lawrence, Emily Kinney (The Walking Dead, The Big C) and Laila Robins (The Good Shepherd). Produced by Rose Troche (The Safety of Objects), and executive produced Anthony Cupo and Cliff Chenfeld, the deal was inked by Ben Weiss from Paradigm and Andre Des Rochers for the Production, and Jamie Carmichael and Rick Kwak for Content.
Passon's accomplished debut depicts the poignant sexual life, 'a la 'Belle De Jour,'' of Abby, an attractive 40-something, wealthy housewife who ' after getting smacked in the head by her son's baseball ' walks around every corner of her suburban life to confront a mounting desire for something else, something more. Determined to take on a new project, she buys a pied-à-terre in Manhattan. But walking around the city streets reminds Abby of what it feels like to be sexy and her pent-up libido compels Abby to invent a secret double life that draws her deeply into the world of high-end prostitution for women.
Producer Rose Troche and Director Stacie Passon said,: 'It's wonderful that CONCUSSION is getting such a great reaction from an incredibly broad audience ' it's really moving people in powerful ways. And we're so happy that the Content team have come on board to help us show the film to the world.'
Content's John Schmidt and Jamie Carmichael commented, 'We were extremely impressed with CONCUSSION. For a first time director and writer, Stacie Passon is so self-assured. The writing is crisp and smart, the casting is perfect and all the performances hit the right notes. We're thrilled to work with Rose Troche and Stacie, as we bring this remarkable film to audiences around the world.'
In 2012, CONCUSSION was chosen for the Independent Feature Project's narrative lab. Additionally, CONCUSSION received the Adrienne Shelly Director's Grant and the Calvin Klein Spotlight on Women Filmmakers Live the Dream Grant at the Gotham Awards.
Content will be selling international rights at the upcoming Berlin market.
