BREAKING: Lionsgate-Summit has set Brad Buecker to direct the musical Time After Time. Buecker, a protege of Ryan Murphy, is co-executive producer of Glee and American Horror Story and has helmed episodes of both series. Lionsgate president Erik Feig picked up the project in turnaround from Universal. Scripted by Brian Yorkey, the Pulitizer Prize winning playwright responsible for Next to Normal, the musical plays out in the style of a John Hughes movie about a contemporary teenage girl who finds herself trapped in an 1980's with her mother as her best friend. Yorkey is currently doing a rewrite. Steve Golin, Joy Gorman and Matt Weaver are producing, and Buecker and Yorkey are repped by WME. Buecker is also repped by manager Jewerl Ross.
