Jeff Lipsky Adopts Own Film 'Molly's Theory Of Relativity' For Distribution

Adopt Films has acquired all U.S. rights to Jeff Lipsky's fifth feature film, 'Molly's Theory of Relativity.'

'Molly's Theory of Relativity' is a sexy, funny, surreal, and devastating portrait of a beautiful twenty-eight-year-old astronomer who, having unexpectedly lost her job, is poised to make perhaps the first reckless decision of her life. Her story unfolds during an eighteen hour period, on Halloween. Providing counsel on the fateful day are her husband, her father-in-law, three deceased relatives, a precocious nine-year-old trick-or-treater, her grandfather from Minot, North Dakota, and a six year old neighbor, who may or may not be imaginary. 'Molly's Theory of Relativity' is about the economy, how we value and measure the pride we take in what we choose to do for a living, the unbreakable bonds of family, and the notion that death is merely a relative thing.
'Molly's Theory of Relativity' stars Sophia Takal ('Green,' 'V/H/S'), Lawrence Michael Levine ('Gabi on the Roof in July'), Obie Award winner Reed Birney for 'Bug' ('Changeling,' 'Imogene'), Daisy Tahan ('Little Fockers,' 'Synecdoche, New York'), Tony Award winner Cady Huffman for Broadway's 'The Producers,' Adam LeFevre ('The Return of the Secaucus 7,' 'Margaret'), Rebecca Schull ('Analyze This,' 'Crimes and Misdemeanors'), Tom Morrissey, and Nicholas Lampiasi. 'Molly's Theory' marks the third collaboration between Lipsky and Ms. Schull having previously worked together in the 2006 Sundance Film Festival Dramatic Competition selection 'Flannel Pajamas' and in 2011's 'Twelve Thirty.' It's the second such collaboration for Mr. Birney ('Twelve Thirty') and the second for ten year-old Daisy Tahan ('Once More With Feeling.')

Lipsky said of the acquisition: 'This story of a couple's mutual dedication to one another, and of a woman of limitless horizons who is unexpectedly boxed into a corner, and a bracing confrontation between a father and his son, is one that should be identifiable to a very wide audience. I could not be more proud of my new film and the fact that it will be released by Adopt. It was thrilling to able to write for actors ranging from eight to eighty and pure joy to be working again with Reed, Rebecca and Daisy. Shooting in the New York City is always a plus, particularly with the exceptional crew I had at my disposal, all of whom were major artistic contributors to the cause.'

'Molly's Theory of Relativity' was produced by Nick Athas and Inna Braude. Executive Producers, Samuel Baumel and Wesley Wingo; Director of Photography, Jendra Jarnagin; Production Designer, Deana Sidney; Art Director, Nadja Gurevich; Costume Designer, Linda Giammarese; Editor, Patricia Burgess

Adopt Films plans to open 'Molly's Theory of Relativity' in March 2013, following the debuts of its quartet of 2012 Berlinale award-winners ' Ursula Meier's 'Sister,' Christian Petzold's 'Barbara,' Miguel Gomes' 'Tabu,' and the Taviani Brothers' 'Caesar Must Die.'
