Stands to reason that a YouTube channel will soar up the charts the week it launches. Teen channel Awesomeness TV, which kicked off last Thursday, did that in a big way in our tally for the week ending June 27. Powered by a slate that includes talk show IMO and a series, Mindless Takeover, about the boy band Mindless Behavior, it rocketed 69 places to No. 8 with 1.5M views. But The Warner Sound recorded the biggest gains in views: It was up 4.3M to 9.8M, knocking Sourcefed out of the No. 1 spot for the first time in the six weeks since we began our YouTube rankings. The top 10 channels accounted for 58% of the total views. We saw the usual shuffling within that group, but with Motor Trend making room for Awesomeness TV by dropping two slots to No. 12.
Others gaining views this week include The Thrash Lab (+821,758 to 990,257), Numberphile (+542,465 to 636,459), Mondo Media (+528,359 to 1.3M), Hello Style Channel (+378,171 to 602,865), and Nerdist (+305,891 to 467,593). Measured by rank, we saw big jumps for Numberphile (No. 19, +44), The Thrash Lab (No. 15, +40), Hello Style Channel (No. 22, +22), and Team USA (No. 50, +22). Channels losing views include WWE Fan Nation (-1.7M to 2M), Sourcefed (-1.3M to 4.8M), Redbull (-1.1M to 1.4M), Wigs (-1.1M to 2.4M), and Motor Trend (-954,066 to 1M). Those dropping most in rank were My Damn Channel (No. 58, -38), The Pet Collective (No. 42, -30), Pop Spot (No. 69, -17), American Hipster (No. 60, -17), Clevver TeVe (No. 44, -16), and Black Box TV (No. 40, -16).
VidStatsX supplies our data with one exception: Starting last week, YouTube has provided views for the shows it funds on Mondo Media. Channels highlighted in beige are the ones that were launched before Google introduced its original channels program in November. Here's our latest ranking:
