As Editor in Chief of Yahoo! Finance, Task ' who will remain in his role as host of 'The Daily Ticker' ' will also be responsible for the continued expansion and promotion of original content, recruiting new talent, the evolution of the Yahoo! Finance newsroom, and work closely with CNBC on their recently announced partnership.
As the #1 online news site, Yahoo! News reaches more than 81 million unique visitors a month, while Yahoo! Finance has been the #1 financial news source online for over four years, seeing nearly 36.7 million unique visitors a month*. As editorial leads, both Frey and Task will put a strong focus developing the original voice of their respective brands to further strengthen the Yahoo! News and Finance properties.
'I am thrilled to announce Hillary and Aaron in their new roles,' said Robertson Barrett, VP of News & Finance for Yahoo!. 'Over the last year, Hillary has been instrumental in transforming Yahoo! News into a must-read for the latest political coverage and our elections 2012 programming. And with his years of experience, no one is better equipped than Aaron to head up the Yahoo! Finance editorial team. Yahoo!'s continued leadership in these two categories speaks volumes about the tremendous talent we employ, and all the more reason why we looked to fill such high-level and influential positions from within.'
Frey joined Yahoo! News as managing Editor in the fall of 2011, and has played an integral role in building the network's fast-growing East Coast news operation and original reporting sites. Prior to that, Frey was the managing editor of Adweek, where she worked closely with editorial director Michael Wolff on reconcieving the brand, and oversaw the relaunch and redesign of both magazine and website. Prior to Adweek, she edited political media and society coverage at Politico; from 2007-2010 she served as both the culture and media editor of The New York Observer. She began her career as managing editor of Lingua Franca, and also worked as a books editor at The Nation and Salon. Her articles have appeared in The New York Times, Ms., The New York Observer, and The Awl. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband, GQ editor Mark Lotto, and their daughter, Lucien.
'I'm excited to take on the challenge of guiding Yahoo! News through the elections and beyond,' said Frey. 'In a very short period of time we've seen tremendous success in original programs such as 'Power Players' [in partnership with ABC News], grown our talented news team, scored newsmaking interviews with all the major GOP contenders and co-sponsor high-profile GOP debates. Now, working with the terrific Yahoo! staff'not just in editorial, but in product, design and development'to create a super unique election night experience is priority one. At the same time, we'll continue to evolve Yahoo! News into an ever-better read for loyalists, a must-read for newcomers, and a dynamic, attractive destination for all users.'
As host of 'The Daily Ticker' on Yahoo! Finance, Task offers insights on the most important business stories of the day, including: politics, the economy, investing, Wall Street, corporate leadership and company earnings. He is an award-winning reporter and producer who decodes the often cryptic world of business and financial news. Prior to joining Yahoo! in 2008, he was editor-at-large at The Street.com, where he spent 10 years in a variety of roles, including San Francisco bureau chief. Aaron is the co-author of Bailout Nation and a sought-after commentator on financial markets, economics, and related public policy. Task is a graduate of Rutgers University and resides in Montclair, N.J. with his wife Allison Fishman Task, cookbook author and the host of Yahoo's 'Blue Ribbon Hunter', and their daughter Davida.
'As Editor in Chief, my goal is to make Yahoo! Finance the primary source for original content on all news about the economy, investing and the financial markets, for everyone from Wall Street insiders to the budget moms,' said Task. 'A key component in this will be leveraging our industry leadership in financial video, including top shows such as 'Breakout,' 'The Daily Ticker' and 'Financially Fit,' to create a one-stop shop for the latest news and insights into the often complex world of finance and economics.'
Both Frey and Task are based in New York, and will report to Barrett.
