Alex Karras, the former NFL Pro Bowl defensive lineman who went on to a career in TV and film, died today in Los Angeles. He was 77. Karras played in three decades in the NFL before becoming an actor, starring as the father in the 1983-1987 ABC series Webster. His film credits include a memorable turn as the brutish but sensitive Mongo in Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles. He was among the hundreds of former NFL players who sued the league in April over concussion-related injuries; Karras suffered from dementia and was a lead plaintiff in the case.
